I get ideas in my head that I want to stitch and create but I know I don't have the time to start a new project and often I also need to play around with the idea a bit before it's something that can really come together into a final project. I thought I'd start sharing some of my sketchbook scribblings and the ideas percolating in my mind.
Lately, I've been thinking about making some embroidered jewelry. The main concept in my head is some type of embroidered collar necklace. But I saw a necklace on Etsy that inspired me. Grateful Gypsy designed a necklace that's a take on the protagonist's tattoo in the Divergent series.
My idea is a little different. One of my favorite songs is Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds". It was the first song on my "Happy Morning" playlist for years. I'd listen to it during my commute into DC. It would get me from the bus ride, to the metro ride, and through the walk to the office, even in the middle of winter with slush and snow on the ground and make me feel good about life and the potential that each new day could bring.
I'm hoping to use denim embroidered images of swallows, stitch some of the lyrics from 'Three Little Birds' and then utilize some chain to make it into a necklace. I'm hoping that this sketch concept comes to fruition as a real project in the next year. I'm putting it in my project journal so I can start playing with thread colors and design and then find a place for it in my ever growing to-do list!
Do you have a favorite song that gets you through rough times or just cheers you up on a Monday? Have you tried turning a favorite song into a piece of art? I'd love to hear about it!
